Aldridge and Walsall 2 vs Buxton 2
Result: 1-1
Player of the match: Alex Brown
On Saturday the 2nd team travelled to Walsall with Chris Clayton surprisingly managing to get lost on the way.
Walsall started off the game strong with the quick midfield attacking well but managing no shots that troubled the centre backs Paddy Jones and Mark Buckingham. Buxton then settled into the game with the centre midfield partnership of Jack Edwards and Tom Biddle doing some nice passes around the pitch to the forwards. Unluckily Buxton conceded first with Walsall scoring a well worked goal, managing to get a smart shot off and into the back of the net. Buxton instantly fought back from going 1-0 down with the full backs Jack Hobday and man of the match Alex Brown executing great passes and fast-paced overlapping runs to help the Bucks attack and produce several goal scoring chances. But the first half disappointingly finished 1:0 to Walsall.
The second half begun with Buxton looking like a different team with the midfield and wingers of Shayne Wilkinson, Sam Rushworth and Mike Curzon taking on their defence and skilfully passing to Captain Paul Browett and Wayne Oritt upfront. Walsall made some good shots on goal but they were no challenge for Buxton’s Goalkeeper Chris Clayton who made some nice saves helping to keep the Buxton 2s in the game. Buxton began to create better and better chances with the team quickly pressing the opposition and playing on the counter attack using the pace of their midfield and strikers. Half way through the second half their persistent attacking paid off with Sam Rushworth setting Shayne Wilkinson off through on goal with him neatly flicking the ball over the keeper in to the back of the goal. Buxton 2nds had many more chances and battled to the end but had to settle for the draw.
