Buxton 1s vs Burton 3s

Result: 5-2
Player of the match: Jamie Wilton

Spurred on after a dodgy performance week one to open the season, and knowing that there was a lot more they could give, Buxton made an impressive start against another new opposition.

Buxton smashed their way into the game with a high tempo passing game that was far too much for their opposition. A new forward line consisting of Longden, Whibberley-Cross, and Hancock set about the Burton defence, creating a number of chances in opening exchange. The best of which came from an attack down the right. Roe playing a well-paced pass directly into Longden who played a first time, no-look pass, behind his legs into the path of Hancock; splitting open the defense and eliminating no less than 3 players with one touch. (now take a minute to read that last sentence again).

Buxton finally broke the deadlock about 8 minutes in. Longden collected the ball running in behind the defence and playing a first time ball to Hancock who side-stepped a defender before drilling the ball into the bottom corner. A second followed mere minutes later, with Longden and Hancock linking up well again. Longden again picking up the ball from a stunning pass from the midfield, a one-two with Hancock around the ‘keeper for Longden to grab his second in two games. Buxton’s third goal was a goal which will long be remembered, a bullet of a hit from Griffin which would surely have stung the pads of any goalkeeper stupid enough to get himself in front of it as it ripped a hole in the backboard. Wilton added a fourth shortly before the HT whistle after a shaky period from Buxton as his Well-worked cross was deflected into the goal by an opposition player.
Buxton would go 5-0 ahead after Whibberley-Cross saw his certain-goal blocked be a defenders foot on the line, but dispatching the following penalty flick. With a large lead, Buxton continued to pile on the pressure, but had a couple of lapses in concentration; perhaps guilty of pushing too hard and leaving spaces at the back. Burton took the chances they were afforded to find a couple of goals themselves, but the game had long since gone the way of the host side.

DOD: Sam Longden for *THAT PASS*
